AP Poll: Obama 44, McCain 43 – Is the race headed for a dead heat?

I’m expecting a landslide victory for Obama. But I’m not sure what to make of this poll from AP. Dewey defeats Truman, anyone?

WASHINGTON (AP) – The presidential race tightened after the final debate, with John McCain gaining among whites and people earning less than $50,000, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll that shows McCain and Barack Obama essentially running even among likely voters in the election homestretch. The poll, which found Obama at 44 percent and McCain at 43 percent, supports what some Republicans and Democrats privately have said in recent days: that the race narrowed after the third debate as GOP-leaning voters drifted home to their party and McCain’s “Joe the plumber” analogy struck a chord.

  1. What to make of it? Polls can’t be trusted. I’ve been polled twice and one time they tried to sway me to answer questions to lean towards Democrats (to make me feel bad if I didn’t support them). My wife answered one poll call and she said hers was fair.

We (our family) can’t trust the polls.

  3. I am 33. I have never once been polled. Who are they asking?

I love McCain and think Obama is a closet racist who can’t keep his story straight as to what he is in favor of. He does not elicit respect and this country will be in a sad state lacking respect from the word if somehow he manages to win.

    VOTE McCain!!!!!

  4. I’ve never been polled. I’m NOT voting for Obama, that’s for sure.
